"new media" is a term that is applied to artwork that is not easily categorized, however it usually refers to work that has a digital component. these videos are not simply video recordings, there will be layers of texture, animation and sound that is combined to make the finished piece.

for example, "Lessig Remix" was filmed using 15 second clips from Canon Elph, a small digital still camera. the "Drop" animation has the apperance of a microscopic high-speed film but it is actually an animation created using fluid dynamics and 3D software.
